Target Audience:
This activity addresses the needs of physicians, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, nurse practitioners, nurses, cases managers, cardiopulmonary specialists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with COPD. 
Learning Objectives:

  • Identify COPD phenotypes that may be clinically important
  • Discuss the role of inhaled triple therapy in COPD management
  • Differentiate risks and benefits of triple therapy for patients with COPD
  • Identify patients with COPD who are candidates for triple therapy
  • Describe the role of case finding in identifying patients with COPD
  • Discuss strategies to overcome diagnostic and therapeutic challenges in primary care practice management of COPD
  • Cite evidence reviewing adherence and persistence rates in COPD
  • Discuss available drug delivery platforms
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses of available delivery platforms
  • Describe the risks associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection for patients with COPD
  • Discuss the management of stable COPD during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Discuss strategies for the management of patients with COPD and confirmed or suspected COVID-19
Day 2: Tuesday, November 17, 2020 (asthma)
Target Audience:
This activity addresses the needs of physicians, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, nurse practitioners, nurses, case managers, cardiopulmonary specialists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with asthma.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:
  • Describe principles of asthma diagnosis
  • Apply guidelines for asthma diagnosis in primary care and specialty practice settings
  • Discuss the pathophysiologic manifestations of severe asthma in adults and children
  • Discuss how to diagnose and manage severe eosinophilic asthma
  • Describe recommendations for the management of patients with severe non-eosinophilic asthma
  • Describe strategies for the management of special populations of patients with asthma
  • Discuss strategies for the acute management of patients with asthma
  • Cite patient education strategies which promote self-management of asthma
  • Describe recommendations for the management of asthma in low-resource settings
